ENGINEERING · OPEN ROLE
Senior Software Engineer, Data and Product Systems
Own the data models, APIs and integrations behind the platforms we build for clients.
About the role
Behind every useful product is a reliable system: data that’s modeled well, APIs that are easy to build on and integrations that don’t break at the worst moment. You’ll lead the backend and data side of our client platforms, from internal operations tools and customer portals to reporting and migrations from legacy systems, and set the technical standards the rest of the team builds on.
What you’ll do
- Design data models, APIs and service architecture for client platforms, from first release through growth.
- Build integrations with third-party systems (payments, CRMs, ERPs, marketing and communication tools) that are observable and resilient.
- Plan and run migrations from spreadsheets and legacy systems without losing data or disrupting the business.
- Build reporting and analytics pipelines that give clients trustworthy numbers.
- Own performance, security and reliability: monitoring, alerting, backups, access control and incident follow-up.
- Lead technical scoping and estimates with clients, and turn ambiguous requirements into a clear plan.
- Mentor engineers through code review, pairing and clear technical documentation.
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years of software engineering, with significant backend and data ownership.
- Deep SQL and relational database experience (PostgreSQL preferred), including schema design and query performance.
- Strong API design skills in TypeScript/Node.js or Python.
- Experience deploying and operating systems on a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP), with CI/CD and observability.
- A track record of leading projects end to end and communicating clearly with non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Data warehousing and ETL/ELT experience (for example BigQuery, Snowflake or dbt).
- Using LLMs in data workflows such as extraction, classification or search.
- Experience with data protection requirements such as GDPR.
How we work
- Purpose before features. We start with the business problem and the people we’re building for, then decide what to build. You’ll be trusted to ask “why” before “how”.
- Connected disciplines. Strategy, design, engineering and growth work as one team on every project, not as hand-offs between departments.
- Remote, with real ownership. We work remotely across time zones, write things down and keep a few hours of overlap for conversations that need them. You own your work from scope to launch.
- Room to keep improving. We build systems that can evolve, review our work honestly and use modern tools, including AI, wherever they make the result better.
Hiring process
- Application review. We read every application, and you’ll hear back from us either way.
- Intro call. A 30-minute conversation about your experience, the role and what you’re looking for.
- Practical step. A short exercise or a walk-through of your past work, relevant to the role. No unpaid spec projects.
- Team conversation. Meet the people you’d work with most closely and ask anything.
- Offer. If it’s a fit on both sides, we’ll put together an offer and agree a start date.
